future ministry with the church in a very practical way. Running for USPG in the London Marathon will be a wonderful opportunity to do this. I will be helping USPG to raise money for water awareness work in Bangladesh.
Before beginning training for ordination, I worked as an environmental scientist and worked with colleagues who were doing pioneering research into the problem of arsenic contamination in wells in Bangladesh. Up to half of Bangladesh’s 150 million population are at risk of slow-poisoning from arsenic that occurs naturally in underground water, leaving some of the poorest people in the world vulnerable to skin cancer and ultimately death. The money I raise will go towards a USPG-supported Church of Bangladesh programme that is raising awareness of the problem, carrying out safety tests on wells and providing new wells where necessary." |
