>> CAMBRIDGE THREE
Three members of the Anglican theological college Westcott House, in Cambridge, are following the exhortation to ‘run the race’ by taking part in the London Marathon on 22 April to raise funds for USPG. College chaplain Michael Beasley and trainee vicars Adam Boulter and Mark Betson are currently clocking up the miles in training for the big day.
Michael said: ‘The idea of running the marathon emerged after we’d enjoyed taking part in our college’s fun run last summer. Our fellow staff and students seem to think we’re mad, but they appreciate that it’s all for a good cause. USPG is a charity that we all feel an affinity for.’
Adam and Michael are no strangers to overseas mission. Adam, an artist, spent two months with the church in Sri Lanka as part of USPG’s Expanding Horizons programme. And Michael, a part-time health researcher, is a supporter of the Delhi Brotherhood’s street children programme in India and Tuele Hospital in Tanzania, both of which receive funds from USPG.
Westcott House has a historic link to USPG. Its founder, Bishop Brooke Foss Westcott, also helped to found the Cambridge Mission to Delhi, which is one of the organisations that amalgamated to form USPG in 1965.
